Which format to pick
- STL — for the 3D printer. No colours, no units, but every slicer opens it.
- OBJ — for moving between programs when you want to keep objects separated.
- GLB — for showing: one file with geometry, materials and textures that opens on a phone.
What conversion loses
Each format remembers something different. Going from GLB to STL loses colours and materials, because STL has nowhere to keep them. The other way round, colours do not appear out of nowhere — the model stays grey.
Geometry is always preserved. If you also need materials, keep the original file and convert only a copy.
Does conversion lose quality?
No. The triangles stay the same; only the way they are written to the file changes.
Can I convert several files at once?
Not yet — one at a time. For large batches an installed program suits better.
